- RISC based computers require the FAT system

- NTFS - native NT based file system
- 32 bit file system
- only readable by NT
- required Macintosh client service
- built in local, file level security
- will preserve permissions from Netware migration
- cannot be converted to FAT or HPFS
- NT can read the following file systems
- NTFS
- FAT
- HPFS - file system used by OS/2
- CDFS - file system used by compact disks
